Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Port Byron Fire Department
and Rapids City Fire Protection District?
The Port Byron Fire Department (PBFD) is a volunteer department that exists to fight fires but also provide first responder service and aid on all medical calls in our district. They also respond to calls about unnatural odors such as natural gas leaks or smoldering electrical wires. They are a volunteer (unpaid) department consisting of men and women that are your friends and neighbors.
The Rapid City Fire Protection District (RCFPD) is the governing body for the department. They manage the tax payers dollar and provide guidance and budgets for the PBFD to follow. The RCFPD consists of a five member board nominated by your county representatives and appointed by the Rock Island County Board Chairperson.
